We're off!

We have checked in and are waiting for our last security briefing before we get on the airplane to Antarctica. Apparently we are on a newer cargo plane - a C-17. It should take us about 5-6 hours to get down to Antarctica. It is a pretty amazing to be in the last phase of waiting for this adventure.

We have to wear most of the cold weather gear that they gave us on the plane. Right now it is pretty hot but I imagine that we will be glad for the clothes once we get going. Hope all is well wherever you may be. We will update y'all later.

Mike and Andrea,
Do you believe that Antartica was once not covered in ice in a time long ago? And do you believe that if the ice melted that this land would be habitable?

Back in the day Antarctica was not covered by ice. In fact they have found fossils around the continent showing that life was here at one time. As the continents drift, Antarctica has gone further south and gotten colder. If all the ice melted, it might be habitable. But I really have no idea, what an interesting question. The entire weather pattern would change...
