Tonight at work is very slow. We are experiencing the first of what will probably be many storms. It is amazing - the wind is blowing hard. It is hard to walk into the wind and you get a strong boost if the wind is at your back. Except for the wind, it is not very cold - probably 10-15 degrees. Visibility varies from none to about 50 feet. The station is essentially shutdown. If we get any good pictures we will post them.
Apparently the person responsible for ordering liquor for the station messed up the past two years. As a result, this year they are rationing the booze. McMurdo is alot like college in many ways. Just like college, people like to talk about drinking but in reality people don't drink that much. It is just cool to talk about. Anyways, on Wednesdays they restock the liquor at the store. Last week, there was a line that formed outside the store about an hour before it opened. The line went down one hallway, all the way down another. It was a weird, disturbing and rather funny spectacle. Of course, everyone was upset when their drink ran out. I just wonder how many mostly full bottles are left at the end of the season...
