Alright, we just watched a movie, 'The Girl in the Cafe.' The movie is about a diplomat who meets a girl in a cafe and ends up taking her to a G8 summit. In the end, she causes a ruckus and she tries to tell everyone there that through a concerted effort the world could start solving some of the problems of global poverty. It was an interesting movie.
It got us thinking and now we have a question, and we need responses from everyone, if you had $1,000 to give to a charitable organization or cause (or more than one), who would you give it to and why? (no pressure, there are no right answers or politically correct answers, you could even say the Republicans and we would be okay with that).

If I had a $1,000 to give to a charitable organization or cause, I would probably give it to a local Animal Shelter, or the Humane Society of the United States, or maybe even PETA, because Im a true believer in animal rights, and the fight against ALL animal cruelty (including america's factory farming and using animals as food). :) I believe animals have rights too :)
There's my opinion...can't wait to see everyone elses :)

I know what I would do! i would donate to fbx.org .. this is the organization where XiXi's Chinese "uncle" now works. This is from the website: "The mission of FXB is to fight AIDS and support the world’s orphans and vulnerable children left in the wake of the AIDS pandemic by advocating for their needs and by providing direct support to families and communities that care for them."
Keep warm, Andrea and Mike!
Love,
Peggy
I've seen that movie 2-3 times on HBO... two of my favorite actors from BBC-TV drama and comedy productions. For a worthy charity, I'd select something in the line of defense or shelter for battered spouses and children.
Come on home, y'all!

You know I'd go with Republican Party, but it's not necessarily a charitable organization. I'd definitely give the money to Habitat for Humanity because I really think they've got a great cause. I worked a lot with them Junior and Senior year and had a lot of fun as well. I'd have to say otherwise it'd have to be an organization that I knew enough about to have helped. Maybe Relay for Life, because I think that's a great cause too. Hope you guys are having a great time together. I'm home March 11-19 for Spring Break. Maybe I'll run into you sometime.
Great ideas from everybody! Thanks for sharing on such a personal question. This subject has brought up lots of discussion for us. Looks like our comment about the Republicans worked. We got one here and one to our personal email - fun stuff.
Got to run...more later.
Hi guys,
I think I sent another message but the whole blog just disappeared so who knows.
Unfortunately, the 300 character limit is limiting!
Am so happy you are on the way to lovely Colorado - however wonderfully circuitous your route.
Good luck on your search for the yellow-eyed penguin.
Love, Carolina
Dear next Republican President Trent,
how do I send you a personal email note? Somehow, missed having this saved on my account. Just want to write you. I have loved that you have followed our crazy world in Antarctica. We will not be back until April 7, so we will have to arrange a way to see you over summer if you come for a visit. Let me know how to write you.
I might even vote for you,
Andrea
Hum- so many organization/charity-I think I would be like Phil and donate to abused children or an orphange. Children are so important and a joy(to some) and they are our future. Better take care of them. It's a hard question to answer. So many ways to help out the world. Love, Ashley
I've loosely followed your trip to Antarctica. You know how reading and I get along. My email is gillat@rpi.edu if you'd like to keep in touch. Just send me a message and then I'll have your contact as well. I didn't know you knew I was interested in running for President with Ben Whitehair as a running mate some day. Hope New Zealand is as cool as I've heard it is. Take care.
Hi! my name is Jose and I would like to thank you for coming to LHS and doing such a great presentation for us. Im the kid that asked the question about the foreign languages. Now I really want to go to Antartica as well.
