Yesterday
One of the great Antarctic traditions is bag drag. When you first arrive in New Zealand, the day that you depart for Antarctica you wake up super early and go check in. It is much like checking in at the airport except there is only one flight, one terminal, and the military is in charge.
When you leave Antarctica, you get the famous 'Bag Drag.' You take all your stuff the day before you leave to the cargo area and check in. They weigh your bags and then weigh you with all of your Extreme Cold Weather gear which you are required to wear. Each person is limited to 75 pounds of checked luggage and one small hand carry. Andrea is the 'Mistress of Bag Drag' - she and her co-workers were in charge of all the bag drags that happen down here. Notice the use of tense - past tense - we are done working, assuming the weather holds and we leave tomorrow.
After we leave keep watching the blog. We will be updating the blog as we travel through New Zealand, Hawaii, and South Korea.
Today
The weather is fine but the plane is broken. We are on a 24-Hour Mechanical Delay. So maybe we will be headed to New Zealand tomorrow...in the meantime, we will be relaxing in Antarctica.
