Our Address

So Costa Rica has a funny thing where there are really no street names.  We have three different maps of Costa Rica, mostly so that we can find our way around San Jose.  Each of the three maps is useful somehow but the best one which actually shows San Jose and the suburbs, has literally no names on any of the streets.  The grid is good, but it is not so helpful.  So how do you get around? You guess, you get terribly drawn maps, and you go by landmarks.

We went on one play date with Rebecca.  The girl's mom drew a map, that took two entire sheets of paper.  Our principal has made us maps that are little squiggles on the paper...the first few made us laugh and were not helpful at all and we ended up very lost.  Now that we are more accustomed to getting around it makes a little more sense.  The only way to find your way is to go by landmarks...turn left at McDonalds, when you see the yellow house go straight, then dodge the illegally parked cars and go down the hill.  One person gave us wonderful directions to her street but never told us which house she lived in.

Anyways, our rule of thumb is to take the road most traveled...it may frustrate Frost but we usually end up close...or gas station attendants are pretty helpful too.

If you want to write us a letter (we actually received one, somehow)...our address is:

200 m al Norte de Dulce Nombre de Tres Rios
Residencial Natureleza de Este, Casa 11E
Cartago, Costa Rica

This translates as 200 m north of the town Dulce Nombre and our neighborhood.

As it happens in Costa Rica, it works and you adjust. Pura Vida.
