We arrived in Hawaii a few days ago after a long flight from New Zealand to the great surprise of Andrea's mom and Rene at the airport. We knew we were going to see them but we didn't know that they were going to meet us.
We went from the International terminal to the domestic terminal and caught a flight to Kauai. We had a reservation at the Koke'e State park in a cabin up there. It was truly a beautiful place. The only problem was that when we got to Kauai it had already been raining hard for three weeks and a large dam broke. Basically, the whole island was in crisis mode since more rain was predicted and there was already a lot of flooding around the island in addition to the failure of the dam. Roads were being closed and there were mudslides everywhere. We stayed in our cabin for one night instead of six and flew back to Honolulu. We got the last flight out of Kauai that day because they were closing the sirport in anticipation of more rain.
Now that we are in Honolulu, we are finally catching up on rest and enjoying ourselves. More later...

Hey! Where are you guys now? Did you have fun with mom and rene? I bet it was great to see them. I am leaving Thurs. out in the field for a while so I hope to hear from yall' before. I'll keep checking. Miss you guys-Ashley
