Spiders in love and in our house

We went to Zoo Ave yesterday.  It is an animal rescue center on the other side of San Jose.  It was really pretty cool the collection of animals that they have and have rescued.  One of the things that they did not rescue but we did see was a bunch of spiders...big spiders.  These suckers are well over two inches long.  At one point we saw one big female spider and a much smaller male spider.  They were involved in making more spiders and did not seem to mind us watching.  The guy was trying his best, the female was tolerant of his advances.  He seemed to be making progress and then a fly flew into the web...well needless to say she was not very interested in the dude because she jumped across the net, killed the fly and wrapped it up.  I am not sure how different this is from relations in humans...males try, females tolerate?

On another spider related note, we had a visitor last night (see above).  In our bathroom, right next to our bedroom was an enormous black spider probably about 4 inches long...not a tarantula but we have never seen a non-tarantula this large. Mike caught it in a jar and tried to feed it to Drako...Andrea was thankful but not interested.

In other news, we started school today.  Bec was super cute in her uniform and had a great day.  Mike and Andrea also had a great day with their kids.  The kids are so excited about the beginning of school...it is always fun to start a new year.

Such fun to read about your exciting and wild escapades! I am so amazed by Drako. Such a lucky dog to have you three in his life!! Bec looks so cute in her uniform. She already looks more grown up. Glad your adventure is going so well. HAppy Birthday, Andrea!
