The Trip to Nowhere!

Last week the Recreation Department had a trip to nowhere planned. We got into a Delta (a big truck, see picture below) and drove out on the sea ice for as far as we could safely go. We tried to get to Inaccesible Island but we couldn't get there (we're not joking).

During the trip we saw great views of the ice, some great pressure ridges, and some seals.

The pressure ridges are created when the sea ice (the ice that melts every year) collides with the glaciers that are permanent. You get crazy formations and huge cracks. They are pretty spectacular.
We saw a whole group of Weddell seals - probably about 10. These suckers are huge about 500-600 pounds. The also call them sea slugs - pretty awkward on land but very graceful and quick in the water.

Everyone poops, even seals...

Even the Poop is shaped like a seal. It looks freakin cold out there. Ashley
